The History
John Packer started his woodwind and brass business nearly 40 years ago. From humble beginnings with a small woodwind repair shop in Taunton, Somerset, his reputation quickly grew. John was well known for his expertise and great customer service in the UK and across the world. Both a musician and trained oboe maker and repairer, John has since consulted on the design of instruments for a number of major manufacturers including Yamaha, Boosey & Hawkes and Schreiber. John has used his experience to create a multitude of features on the JP range of instruments which are now popular across the globe.
The Shop
In 1978, John opened his retail and repair shop. John Packer Ltd became well known in the UK and across the world for its expertise and great customer service, allowing staff and the range of JP brand instruments to grow.
John Packer are the single largest stockists of brass and woodwind instruments in the UK carrying several thousand brass and woodwind instruments in their 10,000 sq ft facility. Their showroom is a purpose-built space between Taunton and Wellington, with a large display area and a selection of insulated practice rooms.
The John Packer team ensure that their customers have access to independent and informed opinion as well as a comprehensive range of instruments and accessories…which now include our Edgware products!

We’re all too aware how our buying and lifestyle choices can impact the global environment. Many of us are keen to change our habits. However, while we cherish our instruments, for musicians it’s hard to make better choices on essential accessories like oils and greases without there being a company producing viable alternative products.
